HEalthy LOngevity (HELO) Survey
The HEalthy LOngevity (HELO) consortium led by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine investigates the public perspectives on lifespan, healthspan, and healthy longevity. Perspectives of the general population are being surveyed in multiple countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Thailand.

Addressing the Ageing Challenge
By 2030, 1 in 6 people globally will be 60 years or older (WHO, 2022). While lifespan is increasing, these added years are not necessarily healthier.
Healthy Longevity Medicine aims to optimise health and healthspan by targeting ageing processes. Building on the research of GeroScience, Healthy Longevity Medicine is translating knowledge from animals to humans, expanding the wellness and healthy longevity industry.
Understanding public perspectives on lifespan, healthspan, and related interventions is vital. The HELO consortium aims to assess consumer preparedness for healthy longevity, which is essential for advancing effective health initiatives.
Study Objectives
The main objectives of the HELO survey are:
1. To assess the level of awareness, knowledge, and motivations of the general population towards lifespan, healthspan, and healthy longevity medicine.
2. To examine how awareness, knowledge, and motivations are associated with demographic characteristics, lifestyle, and psychosocial factors.
Bridging Insights
The HELO survey builds upon insights from a previous focus group study titled "Awareness, knowledge and motivations towards healthspan and lifespan - public perspective" (IRB #NUS-IRB-2022-877). The focus groups explored qualitative themes related to public understanding and attitudes about healthy longevity. The HELO survey aims to quantitatively assess these themes in larger population samples.
The HELO Consortium
The HELO survey is an initiative of the HELO Consortium, an international group of researchers dedicated to advancing the science of healthy longevity. Consortium members span multiple institutions and countries.
